Jordan Valley sits on US-95, the main Boise–Winnemucca corridor, in Oregon’s far southeast corner.

• From Boise, ID: ~80 miles / about 1½ hours — I-84 to Nampa, then ID-55/US-95 south.
• From Ontario, OR: ~90 miles via US-95 through Marsing, or the scenic Succor Creek back way (dry weather).
• From Winnemucca, NV: ~115 miles north on US-95.
• From Bend or Portland: come in through Burns and Rome on US-95 for one of the great empty drives in the West.

Heads-up for Oregonians: you’ll cross into Mountain Time when you arrive — this corner of Malheur County runs an hour ahead of Portland.

Gas, groceries & services

Town has fuel, a cafe, coffee, and basic supplies — and it is the only full service stop between Marsing, Idaho and McDermitt, Nevada. The backcountry has nothing. The local rule: never leave Jordan Valley for the canyonlands with less than a full tank, and carry more water than you plan to drink.

Cell service & backcountry safety

• Roads: graded gravel turns to slick clay with rain — many Owyhee roads are impassable when wet, whatever your drivetrain. Give storms a day to dry.
• Tires: sharp rock eats sidewalls. Full-size spare, real jack, and know how to use them.
• Heat & water: summer afternoons exceed 100°F on the lava and in the canyons; a gallon per person per day is the floor.
• Fuel math: a Leslie Gulch or Three Forks round trip can burn a quarter tank on gravel. Do the arithmetic before you turn off the pavement.

• TripCheck (ODOT) — Oregon highways, cameras, and closures.
• Idaho 511 — for the Boise approach.
• BLM Vale District — backcountry road and river information for the Owyhee.
